Small Crochet/Flannel Blanket

I feel like it's been a long long time since I've posted any kind of project on here, and I'm happy I finally get to!

Kristin taught me to crochet the night before Natalie's baptism.  Our ''lesson'' was on how to make a pot holder, which I completed (mostly), but I never sewed the open sides together.  I'm calling that a finished product for now though :)

Immediately after that I started practicing granny squares because I am obsessed with granny squares.  OBSESSED, I tell you.  I have a granny square blanket my grandma made and I have been wanting to learn to make one for years.  Don't ask why I didn't learn to crochet earlier because I have seriously been wanting to learn since I was like 20 (and that makes me feel so so old to say that).  So I'm pretty ridiculously excited that I finally know how.  I definitely get confused trying to read patterns still, but I am figuring it out!

So anyways.  I was just practicing using some of the yarn that came in my Joann Fabrics gift basket that I won (yay), which luckily were colors that I liked.  Probably not what I would've picked if I were just shopping around, but they are definitely cute and super soft (it was all ''baby'' yarn).

My squares are not perfect.  Not even close.  And they are for sure the simplest granny squares I came across which is why I chose them.  They were good to practice on and I was so much better at making them by the end.  I've also practiced other squares, and will continue to practice because when I make the big blanket I'm planning I want the squares to be as good as I can get them.  Super excited for the day I actually finish a full sized blanket.

Here is my little project.

This blanket is tiny.  I actually haven't measured it, but the squares are about 3" x 3".  I'm not sure what this blanket will get used for.  Maybe a future doll blanket for Natalie?

Cute little shell edging.

And even though it is not perfect by any means, I'm kind of in love with it...

And there is a little surprise on the back:

I wanted there to be a backing on it, because I think it's ridiculously cute to mix yarn projects with fabric.

I got this camping flannel at Joann Fabrics and I think it's really adorable for some reason, and makes the blanket even softer.

I thought the aqua and tans in the fabric were going to match the yarn a little better, but it's close enough for me!  I just love it.

And it's so so soft.  I am a little sad it's not big enough for me to use because I swear it has to be the most comfortable blanket in the world.  It's heavy and soft and I want to sleep with it.  I'm pretty sure I will be making a full sized blanket like this some day... Except cuter.  And the first night I get to sleep with it might just be the best nights sleep of my life.

So thanks for teaching me Kristin :) Hopefully I'll have more of these types of projects, but I've got some other things I want to get done before I start a big blanket.  Like finishing that Goodwill chair I bought like 4 months ago.  Bah.  I want it done before it gets too cold outside because I need to sand and paint it out there.  So, I'm going to make a big effort to work on it in the next couple of weeks.

I'm pretty excited about this blanket if you couldn't tell by the amount of pictures you just saw :)

(P.S. Natalie took 4 steps tonight.  Four.  At 9 months old.  We got ridiculously ridiculously excited.  She's so awesome.)

Nine Months

Nine Months Old!  Holy crap.

This is probably a bad day/week for me to be writing, because she has been a GROUCH for the past week straight.  Not a constant grouch, but on and off all day.  I'll blame it on teething since she now has TWO.  Yay!

Her first tooth popped through right around 8 1/2 months.  We've been waiting for this tooth since we were convinced they were going to come out like 3 months ago... Then her second tooth popped through maybe a week or so later.  I'm obsessed with them for some reason.  They are just the cutest little teeth ever.  She's working on a third tooth now, and I'm going to pretend that's the source of her moodiness.

She's still an on and off great sleeper too.  I don't think I can even ever call her a ''bad'' sleeper,  but on her good nights she's sleeping about 11 hours straight (awesome), and her ''bad'' nights she's sleeping about 8ish hours, has a bottle, sleeps 2-3 more hours.  Not gonna lie, I can't wait for her to consistently sleep from the time she goes to bed until it's time to get up for the day, but we can deal with this :)  Some nights are worse than that, but those are very rare.  It makes it even more frustrating when she does have those off nights though because she's obviously capable of just staying asleep.  I wonder sometimes if she has bad dreams that wake her up, because I know she isn't waking up because she's starving... I wish she could tell us.

She's balancing on her own without holding onto things, but not for more than about 20 seconds at the most.  She's getting better and better all the time, and I can't wait for her to walk.  I don't think it will be for a while yet, but it's fun to think about.  Especially since she's so short, it's going to be the cutest thing ever...

(She was super squirmy so I made a crazy noise to distract her and calm her down.  It worked)

Still hates baby food, but is starting to eat more and more finger foods so I'm glad we're getting somewhere!  We go to her 9 month check up on Friday so I'll probably get yelled at.  He thought it was crazy she didn't like baby food when I told him that 3 months ago...  She's just nuts.

She loves her puppy, and books, and is starting to love dolls and stuffed animals and it's super cute.  She has this little pink bear that is her new best friend I think.  Adorable.

(I was trying really hard to get a cute picture of her looking out of her window, but I just kept getting confused looks)

She's still squealing and screeching all the time, and just ''talking'' nonstop.  She has been doing a lot of really cute/funny things lately but every time I tell people what she's doing and wait for her to do it she refuses.  She likes to make me look like a fool apparently.

She mimicks us more and more, and clicks her tongue at us when she click ours, and makes a few other hilarious noises with her mouth.

She's waving at everything/everyone.  Laughs when other people laugh.  Sometimes dances so hard she bangs her head on the wall (Like yesterday.  There's a bump).  Refuses to stay on her back during a diaper change.  Flips the pages in her books so fast I don't have time to read what they say.  She has the weirdest hair ever... Long in the front, short everywhere else.  No clue what to do with that. She says ''da da'' in place of ''ma ma'' all day long now.  She terrorizes Dexter and sometimes laughs when he barks, other times she bolts and crawls as fast as possible away from him.  Almost constantly has her pointer finger extended ready to poke anything she can reach.

She is just hilarious and adorable and fun (and sometimes frustrating :) ) and we love her a ton.  She just seems like such a big girl now.  The last couple of months she has really grown up.  And by ''grown'' I don't mean gotten bigger... she's still tiny.  I can't wait to see how tall she is on Friday!  I don't trust our measuring.

She's my little buddy.  Her killer dance moves are cracking me up right now.  Man, I like her.

Natalie's Baptism

We had a busy weekend.

We FINALLY got Natalie baptized.  We've been talking about it since she was born and it finally happened... just a week before she turned 9 months old :)  I'm so happy it's done!

And she couldn't have looked any cuter in her dress.

It is from Zara and I am in love with it.

She was such a good girl in church, we were relieved.  We were kind of expecting her to object to being held by the pastor, but she went right to him and just sat in his arms and looked out at everyone and didn't fuss at all.

I may or may not have teared up during it, because I'm cool like that.  It was just so cute and she was too pretty in her dress and was such a good girl.  Ugh.  I love her.

The pastor walked her up and down the aisle afterwards and everyone sang ''Jesus Loves Me'' and it was just fun.  It was a good day.  And someone from the church crocheted a blanket for her and I thought that was ridiculously nice...

Then our families came back to our house and ate brunch and hung out for a little bit.  I am pretty sure I ate an entire loaf of the lemon bread I made... oh my gooooosh it was good.

So it was a good weekend!

And come on... is she not the cutest thing you've ever seen??

Look at those eyelashes... Gah.  They kill me.
