Sneak Peek

Here is a preview of the Baby Shower cuteness that will be taking place on Saturday...

SO much more adorable-ness to come. Trust me.

Tomorrow morning will be spent baking/decorating sugar cookies, cupcakes and cake balls... Maybe I won't make the cupcakes yet actually. We'll see.

I'm excited to see how cute everything turns out when it's all set up!!!

New Stockings!

Our house is becoming very Christmas-y and I LOOOOOVE it.

Our tree is up, I bought two cheap-o garlands at Walmart today and twisted a strand of lights around each them put them on our shelf in the living room and dining room. Bought some Christmas flower things to put on the dining room table... and some other little decorations randomly placed around the house.

I don't know how much more I can do in here without driving Michael insane. We'll see what he says when he comes home.

Yesterday I bought some burlap and some fabric to make new stockings for us. Last year we used really ugly ones I bought at The Dollar Tree I think... I can't remember where they came from, but they were pretty bad.

I made the actual stockings last night and did the final touches today.

I like them a lot. And they turned out pretty good for just making them up as I went along. My processes are never very good or very planned out, but as long as the project turns out fine in the end then I'm ok.

Here are the stockings as they were last night:

They are lined with dark brown fabric. I wasn't actually even going to line then, because I am so impatient that I didn't even want to mess with it... but I had to or they would've gotten all crazy and stretched and ripped and stuff. And there is no way I would've been able to stitch letters onto them.

Here they are with their ruffles and me trying to decide which letters to use:

I like the top two a lot but they were just going to be too hard to cut out of fabric and then stitch around the edges. They are cool fonts, but not good at all for sewing I'd say.

I tried to use Heat 'n Bond for the letters, but it didn't want to stick to the burlap very well, so I ended up just using permanent fabric glue and then the stitching. Hopefully they won't fray like crazy but I'm kind of worried they are going to.

Here are the letters glued on but not yet stitched:

They look so cute!

Here they are with the stitching.

Michael's M turned out a lot better than my A... I did mine first, so I guess I was just more warmed up for Michael's or something... oh well. You can hardly even tell that the stitching is there because of the polka dots.

I kind of love them.

Can't wait for Christmas!

I bought a new stick wreath the other day for our front door. The one the old owners left was pretty similar to the one I bought but it was starting to become really mis-shapen and it was annoying me.

Plus I kind of wanted a wreath on our side door too so I figured if I put a new one on our front door I could stick the crazy one on the side door for now.

So I bought a stick wreath at Hobby Lobby for $2 and bought one stick of glittery leaves there as well.

I have a bunch of little red berries and some other flowery things that I'm going to use to decorate our Christmas tree with, so I stole one stick of the berries to use on the wreath too. Then I just used some floral wire to hold everything where I wanted it.

It turned out pretty darn cute if I do say so myself.

I love it a lot. Especially on our red door!

I can't wait to get all of our Christmas decorations out and I am unbelievably excited to decorate our tree. I'm not sure how much longer I can hold off on dragging that thing upstairs. I really want to go get it right now, and I'm not entirely sure that I am going to make it to the end of the day without doing just that.

I love Christmas!!! I have very hopes for our tree this year. I think the new things I bought to decorate with will be super cute... I will be pretty bummed if I ruin it somehow.

We'll see what happens I suppose... It will probably be up by the end of the weekend... I don't care what anyone says about it being too early to decorate for Christmas.

It's happening.

Basement Projects

We have carpet in the basement!

It's been in for almost a week, actually, but I have been lazy since then apparently.

Actually I have been pretty stinkin' busy since then, so I don't feel so bad for not posting pictures sooner.

I like the carpet down there a lot. Michael and I are a little worried about getting water down there, but we're pretty certain we won't have much of a problem. I'm really really hoping that's true anyways.

My mom has been here since Monday morning and we have been CRAZY busy painting the basement since then. We worked pretty much all day Monday and Tuesday on it and rewarded ourselves by shopping all morning today. There are still some little spots that need painted but we are basically done.

We have to go buy new hinges and handles for the cupboard doors and hopefully we will do that today or tomorrow so we can get them off of the floor and out of the way and then we can start moving in furniture!!! Exciting!!!

I'll post pictures of the basement when it is put together. Or at least when the cupboard doors are on and there aren't drop cloths spread all over the floor.

I can't wait for the basement to be finished.

I also can't wait for the day when I am not scared to be down there alone... that will be wonderful.

It's going to be fun to have another room to decorate!

I love Clearance items.

Remember when I got these two cute lamps at Gordman's for $20??

I remember that.

The tall one is actually pretty heavy duty and nice. The smaller one is pretty light and probably not super great, but they are cute and way cheap... And our basement is going to need some love too!

My fingers are black and sticky.

I got a couple of fun things done today!

Yesterday Michael's mom and I went to Hobby Lobby and Michaels to look for Fall decorations on clearance for Sarah's pumpkin themed baby shower. We got some cute stuff, but of course I had to wander around and look at other things while we were there.

I knew I wanted chalkboard spray paint and a tray of some sort... Well I got really lucky and found 3 trays that nest inside of each other which were all 60% off so they were all $1 or less a piece... It was pretty exciting.

So today I sanded them down and put a sealer on them to make them a little easier to spray paint.

I sprayed the biggest one all in chalkboard paint, and the two smaller ones I sprayed in regular black paint. I didn't bother to spray paint the middles of the trays because I wanted to put paper in them to make them a little cuter. I also ended up spraying the two long outside ends of the smaller trays in chalkboard paint too, so I can write on the sides if I ever feel the need.

I also bought this wooden plate thing because it was also incredibly cheap and I thought it might be fun to put somewhere.

I have no idea where any of these things are going yet by the way.

(Also, the other day I spray painted some vases black. A really tall one that was just clear and I didn't like it, and two little ones that I didn't like either... I have pictures you'll see later. I ended up spraying the two little vases in chalkboard paint too and I love it! They look exactly the same, except now you can write on them... pretty fun)

Here are the trays after I painted them:
These are the two smaller ones with the regular black paint.

The wooden plate:

I don't have a picture of the big tray by itself apparently so you'll have to wait.

The next thing I did was cut two pieces of paper to fit in the middles of the smaller trays. I sprayed the backs of the paper with adhesive spray and stuck them on. I really don't enjoy spray adhesive a whole lot but it definitely works well. It is just so messy... or maybe I'm just messy, I don't know.

But they look cute!!

Incredibly easy and cute... I like it.

Here are all three trays and the little vases I painted the other day and spruced up today with chalkboard paint:

I bought chalkboard markers at Hobby Lobby with my 40% off coupon, and they are pretty awesome. You have to shake them for a long time before you can use them... and if you don't store them upside down (with the writing side down) it takes FOREVER for them to be usable.

How fun is that???? I love it.

My other project I did today was pretty random and... not done very well, but I still like the end result for the most part.

I bought these little clip boards at The Dollar Tree a LONG time ago... I totally forgot I had them...

Well yesterday at Hobby Lobby I kept seeing these cute things to hang on the walls to put your mail in. Every day when I get our mail I don't know where to put it... I always set it on the kitchen table but I don't like leaving it there, so I move it like 5 times until it's basically hidden in a basket somewhere and then I forget about it.

So... I decided to cover these clip boards with cute paper and hang them by the door in the kitchen. Our mail comes through a slot in our closet in our kitchen, so it's a great spot to hang these.

Here they are, I only used two today though:
I just have to say, when I bought these I always knew I was going to cover them with paper... They are not so cute without it.

Picked my paper:

I had to cut the paper to go around the metal part of the clip boards.

It doesn't look great in the picture but it worked out totally fine because part of it was folded around to the back of the clip board.

I cut the paper to be a bit bigger than the board all the way around so I could fold everything over... I did not measure these at all, so my paper ended up being realllllly short on one end and barely made it around to the back of the board. I suggest measuring if you ever try these.

They look pretty cute though, right??

They are a little sloppy and actually a little dirty in real life because I had black spray paint all over my fingers and still do because I can't get it off... and the stinking spray adhesive is so sticky it pulled some of the spray paint off and stuck it right to my clip boards... Grr. But it's mostly on the sides and back so it's ok.

Well I couldn't just leave them alone from here, and I haven't had the opportunity to play with my label maker as much as I would like to (Although I did put labels in our pantry on each shelf. Hilarious and awesome.

So I figured I'd put our names on the clip board where our mail is going to be hung.

I had to use the little envelope symbol... Couldn't resist.

I don't know when we're ever going to let mail just hang on the board and not take care of it, but too bad! They are cute and I like them.

Here they are all hung up!

The closet where our mail comes in is just to the right of this door... you can see the hinges.

Close up.

I like them!

Now I just need to find a place for those trays and vases... they might go down to the basement once that room is ready for decorating.

That will be fun too! I'm excited to paint. Our carpet gets put in on Thursday morning... We need to figure out what color we want and what to do with that crazy wet bar...

I don't even want to deal with it but I want it to look nice... we'll see. Michael and I disagree on lots of things about that basement because he doesn't like painting wood... and the entire room is wood and wood paneling from the 1950's... Not my cup of tea.

We'll see what happens.

Here are pictures of the vases I painted the other day.

I took this next picture the day I spray painted these... The vase has now moved into the spare bedroom and the flowers/sticks inside of it have also changed... I can't decide where I want it or what I want it to look like... when it finds it's final resting place I'll share it... but for now you just get this picture:

Alrighty. Enough from me for today.

Gooooooodbye.

Made Some Changes Already...

I have a feeling the look of this house is going to change on a daily basis. Not the big things, but the decorations are going to be switched around many many times I think.

Last night I had the BRILLIANT idea to have some of our pictures printed and framed and put on the corners of the upstairs bookshelf instead of those random/ugly vases of cheap-o fake flowers and the other things I put there just to have something there.

So, as I'm uploading pictures to the Walmart website, it suggests that I make a collage out of my photos and it showed me a sample collage... I about died. It looked so cool and I didn't have to sit there and try and figure out how to arrange the photos in the collage to get it how I liked it. I liked the very first one they showed me... then I made 3 more of my own simply by clicking ''Shuffle Photos''.

Amazing. Seriously. Go do it right now... I was impressed.

So I made 4 8x10 collages and bought simple black frames for them.

Then I bought 6 really cheap black frames for the bookshelf upstairs...

I love them!

I am still not in love with that bookshelf upstairs. I mean, I LOVE that it's there and I love how it is built, but I kiiiiind of want to paint it white. I don't think Michael will let me, but I think it would look so much nicer painted white... I don't think it makes our books look very cool, and I definitely think if it was painted white the books would look much better sitting there. And now these pictures would look AWESOME sitting there.

But I am pretty happy with it for now... I am going to try to convince Michael to let me paint it but I don't know if it will work. I understand about not wanting to paint over wood, but... come onnnnnnn. I think white would look way better.

Agree or disagree??

Anyways...

Here are the little pictures in their frames:

All of the pictures I got developed are just scenic pictures we took when we went on our Anniversary trip to Omaha in April. These were all taken at Mahoney State Park.

Here is the shelf before to refresh your memories:

I hated those flowers there on the corner the second I put them there... but I couldn't leave the shelves empty... Just couldn't do it.

And here are the pictures in their new home:

Not a big change, obviously but I think it looks better.

And come on... Tell me that shelf and everything on it wouldn't look SO much better in white... maybe with a different color on the back of it??

SO, the plan for the collage frames was that they were going to sit on the buffet table in the dining room because I was not real happy with the randomness of everything in there. And I LOVE our old cameras sitting on those top shelves... so how cute would it be to have pictures we have taken sitting there with the cameras??? Too cute, I believe.

So that's where they are and I love it. I had to email Michael and tell him how cool I am, but I don't think he believes me. Yet.

Here's a look at each collage first:
Pretend like there isn't a glare on them please.

The colors in them are ridiculously cool... They look awesome in the pictures. And I like the mix of the black and white and the colored pictures in the collages. Nice job, Walmart.

All together:

Alright... Here it is before:

And After!

I think they look pretty cool there... I like it a lot.

The last collage made it's way into the living room. I didn't get a great picture of this area the other day, but you get the idea. It was just baskets sitting there and those little candle holders which were lucky enough to stay

Before:

After:

I just think those collages turned out really awesome. I'm pretty happy about it :)

Since I moved some of the knick knacks out of the dining room, the table/book shelf in the living room/entry way changed a little bit... and two of the picture frames there were on the bookshelf upstairs made their way down here. And some of the knick knacks just didn't make the cut and ended up in the closet. Maybe they will end up in some other room but for now I'm done thinking about them.

Living room shelf before:
After:

No one will probably even notice what I took away or added, but I notice the difference and I like it better.

The Isabelle Bloom statue and the bird cage from the dining room AND the ''Stop Being Sad. Start Being Rad.'' sign made their way into the kitchen.

I have no idea if the bird cage or the state will stay there, most likely not... but for today they will.

Those three things match the colors in the kitchen really well.

The colors in this picture are a little crazy. I was having issues taking pictures today... and yesterday actually. The flash was not my friend.

Oh, and I bought a ruffled brown table runner today... I have no idea where it's going to go, but I couldn't pass it up. It's a short one, only 3 feet long, so right now it's on the coffee table in the living room and I am not loving it there... when it finds a home, I'll definitely share it though. It's pretty darn cute.

I like this place.
