I am obsessed with flowery things. I don't know how long I have been planning to make these pillows... but this weekend I finally did it!

I followed that tutorial exactly.

I used plain brown pillows that were 50% off at Hancock Fabrics. Making the actual pillow case part of this whole project was the hardest for me, but the second one turned out much better all around I think. So hopefully if I try to cover pillows again it will be much easier. They really were pretty easy though, and for someone who is actually good at sewing they would take like 5 minutes probably. They took me probably 35 minutes per pillow I'd say... Except for me breaking my sewing machine needle and having to go buy a new one in the middle of the second pillow... and then my machine kept jamming.

So the second one took me FOR-EV-ER.

And the first pillow's case is a little looser than the second one. It is really driving me crazy actually, so I might have to take it in a little bit. We'll see. I suppose it's probably that the second pillow case is too tight actually. It is not supposed to be that tight I don't think. But whatever.

I have enough fabric and felt to make 2 more pillows with a different fabric, and I planned on doing that... but now I have no idea where I would put them. I don't think I will make them this weekend like I was going to, but I'm sure I'll end up doing them some day. They are too awesome for me not to make more.

This is the other felt and fabric I have.

I think it would be ridiculously cute... We'll see though. Maybe I can come up with something else to use it for.

Gah. I love them! It's not very often I love things that I make, but I love these.

I always forget how much I like to sew. And then when I make something that I really like I just want to keep going and make more things.

I'll have to make an effort to sew more. I'm going to make a list of things I want to do this summer, and that is definitely going to be on it.

Oh, and I couldn't decide whether or not I should post the pictures of my sister's painting... I am pretty positive she has never seen this blog, but if she happened to find it I didn't want her to see the painting. But I also wasn't going to tell her she had a painting coming, so if she does read this then I've ruined that surprise.

So I'm just going to post it... I am not crazy about it though. At all really.

So, Brooke, if you see this... you can decide now whether you hate it or not. Just puh-lease pretend you like it when you talk to me about it.

I guess the pictures are kinda small, but... you get the idea. This painting was a HUGE pain in my butt. I don't like painting on canvas that isn't stretched and on boards. Plus it is really big, and I had to paint it on our living room floor. I don't know how big it is exactly. 4ish feet by 3ish feet I'd say. I don't feel like getting up to measure it.

So she better like it! It will be on it's way to Korea sometime this week. I'm not sure if it will make it there in time for her birthday, but I hope it does.

I need to start working on my list of fun summer activities. Any ideas???

  1. The pillows are great...I love the huge fluffy flowers! There's nothing not to like about your painting...your sister's sure to love it, it's very pretty! I don't know how to sew, so unless it's something I can do by hand, I'm content with being envious of everyone else's talent!

  2. How pretty are these, Ali!!! Everything you do is just so much fun and so great!!! Your painting came out gorgoeusly! I love how the trees are moving out to the distance! Your sister IS GONNA love it!!!

As far as ideas for summer activities goes...I will be waiting to see what you come up with! I am all into baking bread now...have you done that yet??? I found a recipe that is fantastic and you don't have to knead the is called Easy Bread. You can watch the video HERE. Be sure to use the Rapid Rise yeast if you try it!!!
Can't wait to see your next project!

  3. So, I LOVE the pillows and need to see them in person. Then you can teach me how. I might steal the idea. I think Liz would love some.
